Nancy Brinker started the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in 1982 in memory of her sister, Susan, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. The foundation is a national non-profit organization with Komen Race for the CureĀ® events in 112 cities across the country. Through early funding of basic research, Komen has laid the groundwork for some of today's most promising breast cancer treatments.
