General

What is the Romp to Stomp out Breast Cancer? When did it start? The Tubbs Romp to Stomp out Breast Cancer Snowshoe Series is a snowshoe walk or race that happens at 7 locations in North America. The first Romp to Stomp events started in 2003 and since they the series has raised nearly 1 million dollars for Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. For more info, read ABOUT: The Romp.

How can I participate in the Tubbs Romp to Stomp? People of all snowshoeing abilities are welcome to participate in the Romp. You can do the snowshoe walk or run (or in some locations, both!), sign up to volunteer (or both!), or support a participant with a donation.

Can I participate in more than one event?
YES! There are a handful of folks each year who participate in more than one Romp to Stomp. It is a fun way to vacation or visit family and friends who live in areas close to a Romp event. If you’re participating in more than one, we’d love to hear your story! Shoot us an email at romptostomp@tubbssnowshoes.com

Who can participate?
Men, Women, & Kids of all different backgrounds and abilities participate in the Tubbs Romp to Stomp. Whether you’re a seasoned snowshoer, a breast cancer survivor, or never strapped on snowshoes before it’s a great event to get out and get active this winter while supporting an incredible cause.

Do I have to train for the Romp?
Snowshoeing is so fun who wouldn’t want to train for the Romp?! Your current fitness level will best determine the level of training you might need for the Romp. Make sure to talk with your doctor about what would be best for you.

What happens if the event is cancelled or snowed out?
We always do our best to make sure the Romp events go off without a hitch; however sometimes outside factors like Mother Nature impact our ability to fulfill the event (i.e. a blizzard that closes the mountain pass!). We will keep participants updated as much as possible on the website and blog as well as through emails, Twitter and Facebook. Unfortunately your registration fees and donations are non-refundable; however 100% of donations and registration fees (less expenses) go to the local affiliates of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. Why do I have to upgrade to a Premier Registration in order to have a shirt included in my registration package?
The Romp to Stomp strives to keep registration costs low. This enables more people to participate in the event and invite friends and family without being concerned about the high cost. We've been able to keep the pre-registration fees relatively stable for quite a few years and including a t-shirt in an Premier Registration allows us to continue to keep the Romp affordable!
Secondly, because 100% of our proceeds go directly back to Susan G. Komen, we work hard to keep our event costs low to give as much money back to Komen as possible. In 2008 we decided to switch our primary participant "gift" from a t-shirt to a re-usable bag. This has allowed us to give more funds back to Komen than ever before while still putting on a quality event.
However, since 2008 when we discontinued the t-shirt, we received lots of feedback on how much Romp participants missed the shirts! So for 2010, we decided to offer a Premier Registration that includes a long sleeve tech t-shirt--perfect for snowshoeing! Participants interested in receiving a shirt can just upgrade to a Premier Registration when they register. That will ensure that only those who want shirts will receive them enabling more as many funds as possible to go back to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. For more info on how funds generated from the Romp are given to Komen, click here.

How can I get a Romp shirt?
The Romp to Stomp long sleeve tech shirt is available in the Premier Registration package. When you register, just be sure to upgrade to the Premier Registration for $15 more. There is a limited supply of these shirts and the Premier Registration Upgrade will ONLY BE AVAILABLE to those who pre-register and while supplies last.

What does the shirt look like? CLICK HERE for more information on the Premier Registration and see a picture of the shirt design!

I've already registered, can I still upgrade to a Premier Registration that includes the long sleeve tech shirt?
YES! However, we only have a limited number of Premier Registrations available, so be sure to act quickly. CLICK HERE for information and instructions on upgrading to a Premier Registration after you've already pre-registered.

Can my family come and see me during the event?
Of course! All of our Romp locations offer spectacular mountain settings that are perfect for a family outing. However, why should they wave from the sidelines when they can join you on the course? It’s easy to set up a team of friends and family to participate in the Romp. You’ll spend quality time with them while supporting a great cause! Click here to register Note for the New Jersey Romp: the start/finish line is at the top of the cabriolet lift so only those with a lift ticket will be able to be at the start, finish & course. (All participants will receive a ticket as a part of their participation in the Romp)

How much of the event will be inside?
Not much (if at all!). As a snowshoeing event, the Romp to Stomp takes place outside. In select locations we might have tents available, but be sure to dress in layers!

Who was Susan G. Komen?
Susan G. Komen fought breast cancer with her heart, body and soul. Throughout her diagnosis, treatments, and endless days in the hospital, she spent her time thinking of ways to make life better for other women battling breast cancer instead of worrying about her own situation. That concern for others continued even as Susan neared the end of her fight. Moved by Susan’s compassion for others and committed to making a difference, Nancy G. Brinker promised her sister that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. That promise is now Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the global leader of the breast cancer movement, having invested more than $1 billion since inception in 1982. Click here to learn more about our Romp beneficiaries

Is my registration fee counted as a donation toward my fundraising?
No. Click here to learn more about how our funds are used.

I registered or donated online, why does my credit card statement say "K2Sports/Full Tilt?"
Tubbs Snowshoes (owned by K2 Sports) operates the Romp to Stomp and gives 100% of the proceeds and donations from the event back to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. When you register online or make an online donation to the Romp, your transaction goes through our K2 Sports credit card merchant account. The account we are currently using is labeled K2 Sports/Full Tilt in our K2 Sports system. (Full Tilt is another brand owned by K2). We apologize for the inconvienance and are making steps to rectify the situation and make it less confusing.

Why doesn't my credit card transaction description indicate that my donation or registration is going directly to Susan G. Komen?
Through our National Partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Tubbs Snowshoes operates the Romp to Stomp as a separate entity while having an agreement with Komen to ensure that 100% of the donations and proceeds go directly back to Komen and the affiliates. All online transactions go through Tubbs Snowshoes. Donations are calculated and redirected back to Komen (usually at the end of every month). Registration fees are pooled together with overall revenue. At the end of the series, expenses are subtracted from that revenue and the 100% balance goes directly back to Komen. Click here for more details

What are the various registration deadlines?
Deadlines vary by location. Select your event to the left and click “Important Date & Deadlines”

If I mail in my registration form, does it have to arrive by the deadline or just be postmarked by the deadline?
All mail-in registration forms must be postmarked by the appropriate deadline to be accepted. Select your event to the left and click “Important Date & Deadlines”

Will Romp event sell out?
For most events: probably not.
For the Colorado Event: There is a chance the event could sell out. We encourage anyone who is considering participating in the event to register as early as possible. You’ll not only guarantee your spot, but if you register before the early-bird deadline you’ll save $15 over the day-of registration rate! We’ll keep folks updated through the website and blog as well as through Twitter and Facebook should the event get close to selling out.

I am not able to participate in the event. Can I receive a refund on my registration?
Unfortunately, no. Registration fees are non-refundable. If you’d like to allow someone else to take your place, please email romptostomp@tubbssnowshoes.com.

I registered for the walk, but I’d like to race. Can I switch (or vice versa)?
Yes. Just log into your Participant Center. However, after online registration closes, you won’t be able to make changes. If you aren’t able to change your registration in time, you can still switch (except for CO participants). Just let the volunteer know when you check-in. Because of the number of racers at the CO event, you’ll need to make the switch from a racer to walker (or vice versa) before online registration closes by logging into your Participant Center.

I printed out a registration form and sent it in with my registration payment but the check hasn’t cleared yet and I haven’t received an email confirmation. What should I do?
In order to process mail-in registrations as efficiently as possible, we input your registration along with a group of others. If you have not received an email confirmation, chances are we received your registration but it hasn’t been processed yet. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at romptostomp@tubbssnowshoes.com.

Fundraising

Why do you have a fundraising component for the Romp to Stomp?
The Tubbs Romp to Stomp out Breast Cancer is committed to offering a fun event that engages people in a fun physical activity while supporting the fight against breast cancer. Throughout the years we’ve seen the powerful impact that one individual, one team, or even one entire Romp event can have in stomping out breast cancer because of fundraising. Every year fundraising makes up a large portion of the total contribution we make for the fight, but it also offers participants an incredible amount of satisfaction knowing that they are working towards a broader goal.

Is there a minimum fundraising requirement?
Although we don’t require any participants to fundraise as a part of their involvement in the Romp to Stomp, we encourage all participants to try and raise at least $100. You’d be surprised how easy it is just by sending out a few emails! Click here for info on fundraising

Does my fundraising really make an impact? Where does the money go that I fundraise?
FUNDRAISING MAKES A HUGE IMPACT! Since 2003 the Tubbs Romp to Stomp out Breast Cancer has contributed nearly 1 million dollars to the fight against breast cancer and the majority of that contribution came from participant fundraising. Click here to learn more about our Romp beneficiaries or visit www.komen.org to more about the work they are doing.

How do I get started fundraising?
The easiest way is to login to the participant page that was automatically created when you registered. Your first step could be sending out a few emails to friends and family. Click here for info on fundraising

How are donations accepted?
Online donations are the best way your friends and family can support your involvement in the Romp. Using the easy online system helps us cut down on costs tremendously while allowing you to easily keep in contact with your donors with thank you responses and updates. We’ll also accept donation checks (written out to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®). Please bring them with you when you check in for the Romp. Click here for info on fundraising

Can you take a cash donation?
Online donations or checks are preferable, but we will take a cash donation the day of the event. Please make sure to record donor information on the pledge form and turn it in with your donation. Do not mail in cash donations.

Are there prizes for fundraising?
YES! Click here for details

Do all donors who contribute receive a receipt?
Donors who placed their donation online will receive an receipt via email. Donors who make an offline donation will receive a receipt as long as the fundraiser collected their contact information.

Will my donors be able to report their donation as a deduction?
Yes. To the extent it is applicable by law.
If I can’t participate in the event, what will happen to the donations that I have raised?

All donations are non-refundable. The money you’ve raised will still go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and their important work in the fight against breast cancer.

Can I create a receipt to give to my donors?
No, please do not create receipts to give to your donors. Only official receipts will qualify the donor for a tax deduction.

Why is the fundraising amount announced at award ceremony less than the total amount raised?
The amount announced at the event-day award ceremony reflects the amount of fundraising dollars actually received up until that point. By the end of the entire Romp series, the amount could be higher to include late donations or event proceeds.

Online Donations & Fundraising
Is there a deadline for my donors to submit online donations?
Yes. Please select your event to the left and click on “Important Dates & Deadlines”

Is there a fee for donors to place an online donation?
Online fundraising provides one of the most cost-effective ways to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer through the Romp to Stomp. It helps dramatically reduce the cost-per-dollar of fundraising and allows fundraisers to utilize our donor management tools to communicate to and encourage fundraisers effectively. There is a small transaction fee that will be deducted from each donation to cover processing costs.

I’m on a team, can I still have a personalized fundraising page that is for my individual fundraising? YES! All participants will have a personal page automatically created when they register.

I’m part of a business that has multiple teams. Can we have one page for the business, subpages for the teams, and then subpages for the individuals on the teams?
YES! When you register, just indicate the company that you’re a part of.

Offline Donations & Fundraising
Who should donation checks be made out to? Susan G Komen for the Cure® with “Romp ” in the memo line.

What can I do if a donor’s check is written out to me personally?
If a donation check has been written out to you personally, endorse the back of the check and submit it with your completed pledge form and the rest of your donations.

What should I do with the checks I collect from donors?
Submit them at the event (or, for some locations, at priority check-in). Select your event location to the left and click “fundraise” for more info.

Is there a deadline for me to submit donations?

After the event, online donations will be accepted through April 10 and offline donations must be postmarked by April 10. (For more info, select your event to the left and click “important dates & deadlines.)

My Romp to Stomp event has already passed and I still have fundraising checks to submit. Where do I send them?
Tubbs Romp to Stomp out Breast Cancer
Attn: Donations
4201 6th Ave S
Seattle, WA 98108
Please make sure they are postmarked by April 10 to ensure they are counted toward the 2010 event series.

Can I accept a bunch of donations and write out one check to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure®?
If the check is written from your account, only you will receive a receipt for this donation (even if you list the individual donors on your pledge form). Receipts to multiple people for one donation cannot be made. To ensure that each donor gets a receipt for the donation that they make, it is important to submit each donation individually, that the fundraiser records their donor contact info on the pledge form, and that the fundraiser submits all checks and forms at event check-in.

Is it necessary to record donor information on a pledge sheet for each offline donation?
Yes—especially if your donors would like to receive a receipt for their donation or report the donation for their taxes.

What sort of information should I collect from donors who make offline donations?
You just need to record their name, email, phone and donation amount as indicated on the pledge form. If they do not have an email address, record their mailing address.

Can you take a cash donation?
Online donations or checks are preferable, but we will take a cash donation the day of the event. Please make sure to record donor information on the pledge form and turn it in with your donation. Do not mail in cash donations.

There’s plenty of different volunteer jobs including checking people in, collecting donations and directing traffic on the course. Most (if not all) volunteer jobs will be outside. Click here for more details .

Teams

I registered as an individual, but I want to be assigned to a team. What do I do?
Send an email to romptostomp@tubbssnowshoes.com with your name, event location, and the team to which you'd like to be added. We'll make the switch within 1-2 business days of receiving the request.

What is the advantage to creating/joining a team?
Teams are a fun way to experience the Romp! They bring a sense of camaraderie and make the event-day full of energy and excitement. Many teams dress up in fun costumes or outfits or wear matching t-shirts with their team name. There isn’t much difference between fundraising as a part of a team vs. fundraising as an individual—except that you could be eligible for the top fundraising team prize! (Note: fundraising on a team vs. as an individual is different for the CO event).

How do I form a team?
When you register, just hit “Start a team”! Click here to register

Is there a minimum or maximum number of participants for teams?
We suggest that everyone forming a team try to recruit at least 4 other people for a total of at least 5 team members. For the Colorado event, we ask that you form a team of at least 10 other people. There is no maximum number of team members.

Am I required to have a team captain? Can I add a co-captain? Yes to both. Each team must have a captain who can also assign a team member to a co-captain role.

Can a team consist of both snowshoe walkers and racers?
Yes.
I’m on a team, can I still have a personalized fundraising page that is for my individual fundraising?
YES! Your personalized fundraising page will also be listed under your team’s fundraising page.

Can someone donate to a team or do all donations have to go to an individual? Can we fundraise together?
A donor can make a general donation to a team. A single online donation cannot be divided between team members. However, if the team works together on a fundraising project (i.e. car wash) the team captain and input the funds as an offline donation and divide it up as needed with the other team members. When checking in, the team members will need to submit their portion of the donations raised from that particular project.

Can team members participate in different cities?
Yes!

I’m part of a business that has multiple teams. Can we have one page for the business, subpages for the teams, and then subpages for the individuals on the teams?
YES!

As a team captain, can I pick up my team members’ materials at priority check in?
Yes. However, you CANNOT REGISTER a new team member. Because they sign a waiver, any new participants must register themselves at priority check-ins (if the online & mail-in registration deadlines have passed).

Check In & Event Day

Checking In
What is the priority check in? Is it worth picking up my materials early?
Priority check-in occurs 1-7 days before the event at select Romp locations. It’s a great way to avoid event-day lines and pick up materials for team members or other friends and family. We introduced priority check-ins at select Romp locations in 2009 and participants greatly appreciated the convenience of it! For more info, select your event to the left and click “Participant Info”.

Can I pick up materials for a friend or team members at the priority check in?
Yes. If you bring in a printed confirmation of their registration it helps in case we have any questions with the registration. One exception: You cannot register someone else as a new participant at priority check-in. Since they have to sign a waiver, they have to register themselves in person.

Can I register a friend or family member at the priority check in?
No. They must register in person and sign the waiver.

If I’m not able to pick up my materials at the Priority Check-in, how much time should I allow to check in the morning of the event?
It depends on the event. Select your event to the left for more info.

Event Day
Will there be food or beverages at the event? All events will have warm beverages like coffee & cocoa for participants and some will have food or light snacks. Select your event from the left for info.

I’m coming in from out of town. Where can I stay?

What should I bring/wear?
For Romp to Stomp-specific recommendations, select your event from the left menu and click ““Event Day Info & Schedule” for more info. Also be sure to logon to www.snowshoes.com for some great tips on what to wear for a day of snowshoeing.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to start at 11am (after the snowshoe walk).

Tubbs will be on hand with FREE snowshoe demos (first come first serve limited quantities). Although we haven’t had a problem with running out in the past, the event series grows every year and we recommend that you arrive early or bring your own

Where can I get snowshoes to bring to the event?
You can find snowshoes to purchase or rent at many local outdoor retail stores. Be sure to check out the official snowshoes of the Romp to Stomp online

Families, Kids & Dogs

Can I bring my dog?
At most locations, dogs are not allowed at Romp to Stomp events because of the site restrictions. Out of respect for both other participants and pets (don’t want them to get stepped on by snowshoes!) we ask that you leave your pets at home. The exception is for the Vermont Romp to Stomp. Stratton Mountain will allow dogs as long as they are on a leash and are cleaned up after.

Can I bring my kids?
YES! Because snowshoeing is fun for the whole family, this year we’ve introduced the Lil Romper Program where kids can register for the Romp at a reduced rate! Every child under 18 will need a parent or guardian register them for the event and accompany them at the event. Kids ages 13-17 register at the adult rate.
Lil Romper (Ages 6-12)
Early Bird Pre-Reg Rate: $15
Pre-Reg Rate: $25
Day-Of Rate: $30
Lil Bitty Romper (Ages 0-5)
Free with adult registration (still must be registered)

Can kids participate as unregistered snowshoe walkers/racers?
No. Each person participating in the event (whether snowshoeing or in a backpack or being pulled in a sled) needs to register for the event. Every child under 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Can kids participate in the race?
Yes! They just need to be able to race the full 3k and be accompanied by a parent or guardian if under the age of 18.

Can I carry my child on my back or pull him/her on a sled? Yes! Lots of parents go this route. We just require that you still register for Lil Romper (kids ages 0-5 are free) no matter what their age. (We need a completed registration with signed or electronically signed liability waiver for everyone participating in the event—no matter how young!)

Snowed in for the Cause

What is Snowed in for the Cause?
Snowed in for the Cause allows those who are unable to attend the event to still feel like they are part of it! You’ll be able to fundraise like everyone else and we’ll even send you your own goody bag in the mail. Click here to register

I registered for Snowed in for the Cause, but now I am able to attend the event. Can I change my registration?
Yes. Simply login to your Participant Center and change the registration. However, you’ll need to do this before online registration closes. Click your event to the left and select “Important Dates & Deadlines” for registration close info.

Survivors

Do you have a discount or scholarship program for survivors? Unfortunately we do not have a registration discount or scholarship program for survivors. Because we keep our costs low, we are able to offer one of the least expense fitness events in the country—making it accessible to many people. We love survivors and make sure to recognize them in our awards ceremony and with “In Celebration of” back tags warn by many participants.

What do you do to celebrate survivors?
It differs with each year and event, but usually during the awards ceremony we call all the survivors up to the front for special recognition and a special gift. They are the evidence that our fight against breast cancer is working!

Snowshoeing & the Course

Will snowshoes be provided at the event?
Tubbs will be on hand to provide FREE snowshoe demos for people to use at the Romp to Stomp; however, the demos are first come first serve. We keep a close eye on registration numbers and the number of those indicating that they would need snowshoes. Although we haven’t had a problem with running out in the past, the event series grows every year and we recommend that you bring your own, borrow from a friend, rent or arrive as early as possible. Some locations have on-site rental areas or places to rent snowshoes in the nearby town. Select your location from the left menu for more information.

Is snowshoeing difficult to learn? No! Its surprisingly easy! If you can walk, you can snowshoe. Check out www.snowshoes.com for some great info, tips and techniques.

I’ve never snowshoed before, can I still participate?
Yes! About 25% of participants show up to the Romp having NEVER snowshoed before. We try to keep the snowshoe walk course with the beginner snowshoer in mind.

How far is 3k and 5k?
5k is 3.1 miles
3k is 1.86 miles

I registered for the 3k Race, can I switch to the Walk? (or vice versa?) Yes! Just send an email to romptostomp@tubbssnowshoes.com and we'll get you switched. If it is less than two days before the event, we are likely very busy getting set for the next event and might not be able to get you switched. If that is the case, you can just tell the volunteers that you want to switch when you check in. All racers get different color bibs. For Colorado, you are allowed to switch up until Tues, March 2 Because of the logistics involved in a higher number of racers, we prefer to have all switching done by that day.

How long will it take me to walk or run the course?
It depends on a lot of things, but to give you a reference point, usually the last of the 5k walkers hit the finish line about 90 minutes after the start.

What kind of terrain should I expect on the course?
Mellow! The Romp to Stomp courses are relatively flat and tend to meander through beautiful wooded areas with some great views of the mountains. Each course is different but “doable” for beginners.

Will the course be the same for the race as for the snowshoe walk?
In some cases. Usually there is a turn-around point for the 3k route. Sometimes it is a loop and sometimes it is there and back—all depends on the snow conditions and trail availability during that time of the year.

Will I get lost?
We hope not! We mark the course with lots of pink flags and usually position volunteers at key split-off points to ensure everyone finds their way.

Why are we not provided a course map?
For every event, we set the snowshoe course 1-2 days before the Romp. Because we don't know what snow and weather conditions will be like until just before the event, we set the course 1-2 days before the event, making it too tight of a timeframe to put together a specific course outline. We strive to mark the course with plenty of flags and post volunteers at key turn-offs so know one will get lost!
